Jay Kamat
I am an ELLIS PhD student at the Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial (IRI) in Barcelona, Spain. I am working at the Perception and Manipulation lab with Prof. Carme Torras and Dr. Júlia Borràs Sol as my supervisors. I will also be doing an exchange with Prof. Justus Piater, who is my secondary supervisor at the Intelligent and Interactive Systems Lab (IIS) at University of Innsbruck in Austria. I am broadly interested on working on the intersection of Mathematics and Robotics.
My PhD is focussed on defining a representation of cloth like deformable objects in the configuration space. The goal of this project is to understand the configuration space of cloth-like deformable objects for planning folding and unfolding.
Prior to this, I have interned at Prof. Marc Toussaint's Learning and Intelligent Systems Lab (LIS) , where I worked with with Andreas Orthey and Joaqiom Ortiz De-Haro at the Learning and Intelligent Systems lab, TU Berlin on the topic, "Combining Sampling and Optimization in Motion Planning for Manipulation Tasks".
Apart from research, I indulge myself into sports. I am a semi-professional Table-Tennis player and also an Aspiring Triathlete. I have until now run half-marathons and completed multiple 100+ km cycle rides. I also like interacting with kids and sharing my knowledge. I have on multiple occations voluntarily visited my high school to share something that has interested me. I also am a student of Indian classical Music and I am learning the flute and the tabla (Indian Drums)
